Half Way Motel

what is the California law regarding letting someone go because business is not bringing in enough money?

I was let go from a motel chain because they were not bringing in enough revenue and I have been there for about 8 mounths and never called in sick and always was on time. Is there a law that says they half to compensate me for the rest of the mounths pay or do I just half to eat my loss.

  1. California is an "at will" state, which means the employer can let you go when ever they want to, without reason or explanation. If you live in Los Angeles, Farmer John is ALWAYS hiring.
  2. Your employment was "At Will" and can be terminated for any reason. Most companies with any self-respect will at least give you severance pay, but if you were let go because they were cash-strapped, it would explain why they gave you nothing. Sorry, you have no claim on further compensation from your past employer. You can, however, collect unemployment insurance. It also looks good on your resume that you are punctual and don't take a lot of time off.
