Half Way Motel

Motel Room -- Underrage, but maybe with necessary means?

My girlfriend and I are celebrating our one year this weekend. We aren't sexually active, but are simply looking for an inviting place to sleep together. That's where the idea of the local Motel 6 came into mind. I know from experience that they take cash for a reservation. I'm 17, and have a credit card though. The age in VA to get a room is 21, i'm pretty sure. If i make the reservation with my credit card (is under my name), what is the likelihood they will reject me when i check in and/or if they ask for ID, and see that i'm only 17? i look rather older (barely 20 though, probably), and am in a wheelchair -- i feel like i have that working for me. Any advice would be appreciated thanks! WOW, thanks for all the quick responses. yeah, Leslie, i agree about it taking away from the meaning behind it. Any other suggestions, guys? as far as a nice peaceful night together? to give more detail -- i have a visa bank card under my name, and an amex under my parents' account, but has my name on it. o/c i would use the VISA, lowering the likelihood of them finding the charge. Either way, i was just hoping to use cash and maybe leave the VISA number, seeing as i know they like to protect against the cost of damages and what not. if i'm able to find someone over 21 to make the reservation, via credit, i wouldn't even be able to pick up the keys? mannn. but yeah any othe ideas? again, thanks so much. Stevie Sarah, i totally understand. that's thing though we go out to eat allll the time. and actually her birthday is later that week, and we're going to a Ruth's Chris to celebrate -- I couldn't think of anything else but a nice, quiet night together w/o the distractiosn of our families. she agreed. i see where you're coming from though. so i'm thinking maybe i could have a friend over 21 (although they are hard to come by, haha) go up there at the earliest possible time for check in and get the room key, and give it to me, for me to return to later?? What's the protocol as far as the person getting the room -- i know a person would probably be rather reluctant if they had to put credit info down. could they only put their name, and pay cash?

  1. They will still check your id when you check in to make sure you are what the credit card says.
  2. every hotel ive stayed at, they ask for the id to verify that the credit card is yours. they might deny you once they see your age. =( plus they usually need all the info off of your id
  3. It''s 21 here in Kentucky too. My best friend's bf got away with it when he used his credit card. But before you try it have a plan b ready just in case that don't work out. Have fun. Happy anniversary! ^_^
  4. The law requires you to show your ID at check in. They will ask for it no matter what, and they will not accept your cash and / or refund your credit card once they see you are underage. Forget about a motel. (And remember to wear a condom).
  5. that will not work... sorry!! they will check your id and make sure you are over 21. an adult has to get the room for you and even get the keys....
  6. If you have to cheat the system, it's too much effort and takes away the romantic meaning behind it. Find a way to make it work legally, they will probably say no once they check your ID (which any proper motel does for legal security and their records). Good luck with working it out. -You know, I really don't know what else to say because you could get the older person in serious trouble if they are caught for providing services to minors, the motel could get in trouble ... Um ... Ask your parents to let you use the account with them on it since they are still legally in control of you and stick to your guns of wanting to do something special for her. I don't really know how you could make it work without getting someone legally able involved but if your parents trust you and hers trust her then it shouldn't be a problem. It's worth a shot to ask.
  7. If you aren't sexually active why would you want to go to a motel room to celebrate your one year anniversary? Wouldn't you rather do something more romantic, something that will respect your girlfriend and the year you've spent together. A friend of mine and her husband run a motel six and they will check your i.d. Instead of risking an embarrassing situation for you and your girlfriend my suggestion is wait until you're old enough. I'm sure that is not what you want to hear. It's the mom in me honey.
  8. They will check your ID when you check in (with or without credit card.) I don't know that they actually check the age. With a credit card, they will definately check your photo and name. But, maybe they won't check your age. They may assume that if you have a credit card that you are an adult and not look for the age. If you just pay with cash, they may be more inclined to notice the age on your ID. If you aren't sexually active. Do you really need to sleep together all night? Maybe you could just use the money for the hotel room to the dinner tab and have a super romantic meal in a really nice place.
  9. I did this once and basically my dad checked in for me earlier in the day and he just gave me the key to go to the room later. when i arrived, i went straight to the room and they didn't have to check my ID because they had checked my fathers when he checked in. I think I checked myself out, but i can't remember. I don't think hotels really mind you staying there as long as your not causing trouble. point is to just get an adult to check you in and then give you the key.
