Motel charged me for canceling?
The place was called Gold Trail Lodge in Placerville CA They had total vacancy ......Unauthorized credit charges. I made reservation at a Motel, when I called to cancel the lady on the phone Told me I could not cancel because I need to give her 72 hour notice. And that she Was going to charge me for the night. I told her that I was not told I would need to give 72 hours notice so I do not expect to pay. Her answer to was: “You didn’t ask” I told her that I am calling to cancel and she is not to run my card, there is no web site or anything that says that I will be charged for not giving notice. I told her I would dispute it and she went on and said very rudely, go ahead, and then starting to talk about something about buckets of water, that is when I hung up. She then called me back and told me that I shouldn’t hang up on her. I told her they was being very unprofessional and that again, please do not run my card. She said she was anyways. I called my credit card company who said it they already ran it and that I can only dispute it after it posts. Any advice on what to do about this? FYI: There is not information on cancellation, there was no email confirmation or anything sent to me.... NOTHING!

- do not fight, make up and get another free night committed from them at some other time/ may be gift it to some one if you do not intend to. after a dispute even if you win you are th lesser looser. have cool. practice deep breathe next time when you face such situations. such things happen some times only not always, your life quality is important. party dear and patch up.
- Take it to small claims court. the only thing you can do.
- motels are like that some ask for 24 hours or they have the right to charge you for 1 night stay.when they emailed you or you talked they should of told you,you should not have to ask about the canclations.
- All you can do is dispute it after it's been paid...but you most likely will lose..most if not all lodging require some sort of notice for cancelling...and the CC companies usually side with the lodges...I had the same problem when I was running late and canceled the one night and changed the reservation 2nights ahead.
- All hotels and motels have deadlines for when you can cancel without a charge. If they don't tell you what that deadline is, then it is your responsibility to ask. You can try to dispute it with your credit card company, although it doesn't always work.
- You can try to dispute it through your credit card company, but I would recommend calling and asking to speak with a manager. Sometimes they will be more understanding than a front desk clerk. In addition, make sure their cancellation policy is not on their website or on any confirmation that you received.
- As soon as it posts, file a dispute with your credit card company, telling them in the dispute that you were not notified about the cancellation policy, and by law, you aren't required to ask. The motel is required to tell you. You can also file a complaint on the Better Business Bureau website, and complaints.com
- My advice is to find out the cancellation policy of any hotel you reserve. All hotels have one - and each is different. I don't think you will win this one....especially if they sent you a confirmation via email or mail.
