Last spring we purchased a 22 room New England motel?
It was in AAA a few years ago as "one diamond" and for the past two years, it has not been rated at all. We've cleaned and painted everything. We went nuts with a commercial steam cleaner on EVERYTHING. About half the furniture and bedding was replaced. While still basic, everything is clean, fresh and in good shape. We are in the process of creating a good continental breakfast. What features would you consider a 2-3 star motel? Is breakfast a necessary feature? If so, what do you expect? Thanks.

- 2-3 stars? A pool would be nice. Breakfast is also nice. An exercise room is also nice. But for me, one of the biggest things that contributes to quality is overall feel. That includes the sort of design scheme the place has, whether guests feel really safe and at home, how friendly and helpful the staff are. Try new paint and good people. :]
- where we stay has a spa, a self made breakfast of waffles, cereal, pastry, coffee, juice, milk, all from easy to use appliances, clean rooms, tv that works, non -smoking, single queen bed, coffee in room, hair dryer, iron, usual towels, shampoo, soap, clean sheets, a friendly smile from desk clerk, directions to town or restaurant, not a resort where i plan to stay for a week but a night or 2. I forgot Wifi service I'd probably stay at your place in a minute if the price was right I'm in California. We pay a senior rate of $59-$79 before taxes.
- Ditto what Viv said and free Wifi is nice too, they have that at all of the motels and hotels I go to in Philly.
- Contact AAA and find out what the qualifications to be rated at each diamond are. There address is 1000 AAA Drive, Heathrow, FL 32746. After a hotel is rated, they will go over the rating with the hotel. You can also find out aaa.biz/diamonds or by calling 407-444-8370 A continental breakfast is not a necessary feature. Many three diamond hotels don't offer it.
- I feel that more important than A Wifi a personal touch is always good. Extra pillows, a few pieces of nice chocolate in the room, facial soap as well as a body soap in the shower, Small bottles of conditioner and lotion for your hands. In the lobby, a rack with new magazines and newspapers (daily). A table with fresh coffee on it..you know a homey feeling place.
